Tomey Debuts Patient-Friendly FT-1000 Tonometer with Silent, Soft Air Pulse that Optometrists will Appreciate Ease of Use and Patient Comfort

PHOENIX, AZ, February 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This winter, Tomey USA will introduce the FT-1000, the newest and most user-friendly tonometer on the market. While air jet tonometers offer reliable and quick diagnosis, often times they are uncomfortable for patients. The FT-1000 is not only fast, but also patient-friendly by providing a very silent and soft air pulse. Optometrists need not worry about pain or unwarranted irritation with the FT-1000. The multi-shot option produces up to three air pulses in an extremely short sequence (0.1 seconds each). Additionally, the FT-1000 includes a color touch screen, which conveniently color-codes all measured values and commands. The FT-1000 also offers the convenience of automatically aligning and measuring to the patient's eye. Practitioners simply adjust the IOP calculation formula to their own preference and the rest is taken care of.

While other companies' tonometers do away with the joystick, Tomey USA understands that many optometrists prefer to have the option of manually adjusting measurements and alignments. The updated power-motion joystick provides accurate maneuverability, thereby offering practitioners additional operational flexibility.

Tomey USA is proud to offer the optometric community the FT-1000. Given that an increasing amount of patients are opting for refractive procedures to correct myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia, the number of people in this population who will eventually develop glaucoma or ocular hypertension continues to increase. Accurate and reliable IOP measurements, as offered by the FT-1000, are crucial to the management and treatment of glaucoma. Tomey USA's Director of Operations Nancy Clavelot remarks, "We are thrilled to launch yet another device that provides optimal quality results in patient care that is easily operable for any eye care specialist or technician in the industry today."
