Angie Stone, singer and songwriter, talks about the Diabetes Epidemic

Special Guest: Angie Stone: singer, songwriter, national and international star. Her last album, The Art Of Love & War, peaked at No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart selling 45,000 copies in its first week, becoming Stone's highest-charting album to date. Angie's solo debut album, Black Diamond, was released on September 28, 1999 on Arista Records; the album would eventually be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). She also released, on Clive Davis' J Records, Mahogany Soul on October 16, 2001 (which also went gold), and Stone Love on July 6, 2004. She has worked with James Ingram, D'Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, Betty Wright, Idris Elba and many more.
Physically, Angie is doing well too. About eight years ago, she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Currently, she serves as the spokesperson for Eli Lilly for its F.A.C.E. Campaign. Fearless African-Americans Connected and Empowered launched in Chicago last Fall at Salem Baptist Church. Through a series of practical and sustainable programs in local communities, the campaign's goal is to help foster behavioral and attitudinal changes in areas critical to success in managing diabetes such as nutrition/cooking, physical activity, health and overall well-being. Angie Stone is a woman of compassion and one that gives back.
Special Guest: Neva White, representing the American Diabetes Association. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from Holy Family College, Masters degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Post Master's degree as an Adult Health Nurse Practitioner from Temple University. Her clinical experience includes medical/ surgical, psychiatric and community health nursing. She taught nursing at both the undergraduate and graduate level at Temple University and Widener University. Mrs. White has served as the Coordinator of the Congregational Nursing Program at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Mrs. White is a Certified Diabetes Educator and is currently the Regional Director for Community Health at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
