Bariatric Surgery Program in Columbus, Ohio Proves Success with Weight Loss Statistics
OhioHealth Fresh Start Bariatrics at Riverside Methodist Hospital has given many patients a second chance at life and the numbers prove it.

COLUMBUS, OH, July 09, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The leading healthcare organization in central Ohio, OhioHealth, continues to change lives with its Fresh Start Bariatrics at Riverside Methodist Hospital weight loss surgery program. Not only do the countless positive bariatric surgery testimonials attest to the Fresh Start Bariatrics program, but the success statistics are also truly remarkable.

Many studies show that patients who have undergone gastric bypass surgery lose 75 percent of their excess weight within one year. At Fresh Start Bariatrics, the average weight loss is even higher; patients lose, on average, 89 percent - or 105 pounds - of their excess weight in the first year.

"Since the Fresh Start Bariatrics program began, I have performed more than 500 successful bariatric surgery operations," Dr. Stephan Myers said. "I am committed to helping each of our patients acquire all of the tools they need to obtain the very best long-term result from their bariatric surgery."

By offering three types of bariatric surgeries, Fresh Start Bariatrics' patients can select the most appropriate option for their personal needs and long-term goals. The most common procedure is Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass. The weight loss average at the one year mark after this procedure is 108 pounds, or 86 percent of excess weight. The gastric band option averages 57 percent of excess weight after one year, which is 58 pounds. Our third surgical option is the gastric sleeve procedure.

Most Fresh Start Bariatrics' patients also experience dramatic improvement or complete resolution of their obesity-related health conditions. With the Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, 86% of patients with Type II diabetes resolved the issue. Several other health issues were resolved for patients who had this surgery, including, 84 percent resolved sleep apnea, 68.75 percent resolved hypertension, 65 percent resolved dyslipidemia and 72 percent resolved GERD.
