On This "Black Friday" Make a Difference in Someone's Life by "Fighting It!"
Diabetic Rockstar's Fight It! Campaign announces a one-day fundraiser for uninsured diabetics and their families this holiday season. November 27, known as "Black Friday" in the US, will be renamed "Fight It! Friday" as a way to motivate others.

NEW YORK, NY, November 25, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In the United States, the day following Thanksgiving has traditionally been called "Black Friday". Starting this year, Diabetic Rockstar's Fight It! Campaign is having it renamed "Fight It! Friday", a day reserved for helping families adversely affected by diabetes.

The Fight It! Campaign is asking for individuals to donate just one dollar on the busiest holiday shopping day of the year. Individuals are welcome to donate more if they can, of course; the one dollar donation is being requested as proof that even the smallest of gifts can be the most rewarding, and life changing.

"Diabetes is an incredibly difficult disease to manage, and the financial implications alone can be a nightmare. We just wanted to find a way to help make this holiday memorable for some families," says Christopher Thomas, founder of Diabetic Rockstar and Director of the Fight It! Campaign, "You know, the thing about diabetes is that it affects everyone in some way, and this is kind of a way for people to come together to help others. "

The National Institute of Health estimates that the yearly cost of managing diabetes exceeds $14,000. For an uninsured family, this amount is almost beyond feasible, as the daily struggle of managing an unpredictable and incurable disease, combined with the financial strain, can be a crippling burden. The current economy is not making this battle any easier; even families considered middle to upper-middle class are reeling from this relentless disease known as diabetes.

Diabetic Rockstar's goal is to raise $4,000 with Fight It! Friday, or enough to cover the cost of living with diabetes through the holiday season for at least ten families. Recipients will be chosen from individuals who have applied for assistance through the Fight It! Campaign.

This is not an entirely new idea. The Fight It! Campaign has been helping newly diagnosed, uninsured and/or financially struggling diabetics since Diabetic Rockstar Inc's inception in 2007. The charitable efforts have been highlighted by numerous articles and awards, including a feature in the February 2009 Reader's Digest, which included a grant from their "Make It Matter" initiative.
Still, the purpose of renaming "Black Friday" remains clear.

"The busiest shopping day of the year shouldn't be 'black' anything. It should be a day of hope, a day of joy. It should be that one day when you can feel good about the money you spend, regardless of your religious beliefs come the holiday season. And people that get involved with our initiative will know that their one dollar will truly be money well spent," says Thomas.
