Fran R. Cogen, MD, CDE Joins the Ranks of Leading Professionals
Dr. Fran R. Cogen is proud to have expanded the diabetes center since attaining her position

WASHINGTON, DC, January 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Fran R. Cogen, Director of the Childhood and Adolescent Diabetes Program at Children's National Medical Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in medicine.

With 30 years of experience in her field, Dr. Cogen specializes in type I diabetes, intensive insulin therapy and permanent neonatal diabetes. As the director of the Childhood and Adolescent diabetes program at Children's National Medical Center and Associate Professor of Pediatrics, she is responsible for managing patient care, teaching medical students at George Washington University School of Medicine, and working with residents at Children's National Medical Center. Collaborating with a team of five physicians, she supervises six nurse educators, one dietitian and a psychology team, and is currently in the process of fundraising for the construction of a diabetes complex in the medical center. Dr. Cogen has published numerous journal articles and attributes her success to the support she receives from her colleagues.

Dr. Cogen completed her pediatric residency at Babies Hospital at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City in 1982. She received her MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1979 and her Bachelor of Science in the Biological Sciences from Cornell University in 1975. A certified diabetes educator, she is affiliated with the American Association of Diabetes Educators and has been a physician representative for the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (2004-2008) and the Diabetes Self Management Education Program of the American Diabetes Association (2004-2007). She was a member of the Capital Physicians Network, Inc. from 1996 to 1999. Dr. Cogen has been named among America's Top Pediatricians by the Consumers' Research Council of America (2008) and a top doctor by Washingtonian Magazine (2008). She hopes to work as the Medical Director for the new diabetes complex.
